Passing Strange

I am trying to find time between the frenzy of final papers and school closing to check out Passing Strange a rebellious and innovative new piece of musical theatre. Passing Strange is said to challenge the limitations of space, “authentic” identity, and conventional theatre. A performer from Joe’s Pub created this story about a black bourgeois bohemian musical journey from the US to Amsterdam. Check it out here.

I saw this show a couple weeks ago and it was definitely an interesting piece. I felt that it had more to say about identity in general than racial or ethnic identity, and it definitely had some hard philosophical questions about music and musicians. It's definitely worth seeing!

i like unicorns. but like social justice... they only appear in my dreams.
