Stuff White People Like.

Based on the 3 million or so hits, apparently this blog has been getting a lot of attention lately in the land of all things "hip" and "trendy" (...it has only existed since Jan 08).

It was fwd. to me by a friend who got it from a friend (where it was circulating around his office place) so I figured that I'd circulate it through our blog.

....thoughts? (it's also interesting to read some of the responses people have added to the comment section of each post) :)

If it's war the Asians want.....

My friend is currently at the law school at the Univ. of CO, Boulder and sent me this link. Apparently the writer was arrested last year for making comments in a classroom that could be construed as inciting violence after the Virginia Tech shooting...

I am a huge proponent of respecting one's right to journalistic free speech but this is pretty horrible and leaves me feeling...hunted?

While the surface tone was attempting to be satirical, the underlying tone felt threatening and dangerous (at least to me).

...thoughts?

Salesgenie.com

Hi friends,

Many of you watching the Superbowl last night may have seen one or both of these ads. I just wanted to draw everyone's attention to them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsk3fZc2J_I - Panda Ad

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJyQcDUIDYo - Ramesh Ad

In case anyone is interested in expressing their opinion to the source, here is the contact info:
Vinod Gupta, Chairman and CEO Info USA (parent company of salesgenie.com)
402-593-4575 vin@infousa.com

Perhaps the most disturbing point for me on all of this is that the president, Vin Gupta, thinks having terrible ads is good for business, regardless of the impact. http://www.brandweek.com/bw/news/sportsent/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003689832

Youth Rising Up!

I am sharing an article I wrote for Teenwire.com about an amazing group of young women in the South Bronx. Sistas on the Rise, is a collective and advocacy organization for young mothers working to provide young moms (mostly young women of color) with the resources and support they need. Offering a variety of services, in addition to a safe and welcoming space, Sistas on the Rise empowers young parents through leadership development and educational programs. Please take some time to check out my article and support Sistas on the Rise by joining their MySpace page, making a donation, volunteering, connecting them with supportive students or other organizations that empower young women, or sending them a letter of support.

Another cool youth organization for you to check out is Votegopher.com. Check out this article from The Washington Post on their work educating young voters (There is also a quote from yours truly). I would love it if you could educate your residents about Votegopher.com!

Feeding the Frenzy

I am reposting some things I have blogged about on other blogs recently about the role of race, gender, and power in our election. In time for Super Tuesday, I'm here to remind us to think about possibilities and not limitations. We can't make change unless we really have faith in our vision.

Hope Vs. Fear: http://girlheadquarters.org/2008/01/04/hope-vs-fear/

The second post actually was picked up by a few state poltitical blogs for this line:

"Mr.Obama has the potential to change the way politics are done in this country. I am hopeful that Obama will stay true to his commitment to 'cleaning up' Washington, moving away from dirty politics and more toward honest, spirited, and principled social justice. Honestly, Hillary [Clinton] hasn't proven to me that she is above the fray of 'business as usual.'"

Not that i'm trying to move you one way or another, but you said this conversation is courageous, so here it is.
