"Meet a Black Guy"

The "meet Meet a black guy" booth at Corvallis farmer's market sparked various reactions from community members.

It's an interesting social experiment but people's reactions don't really surprise me...

Sometimes I keep wondering if we need to be giving B-12 shots out to people for free to keep their brain functions alert. Their reactions were not suprising but annoying all the same... When I see that sort of thing I feel that nauseating ache in my stomach that i feel everytime I hear people make ignorant comments that have no bearing in real critical thought or understanding... Le sigh. Its as if they don't understand the reasons why an experiment like this is social commentary that speaks to issues way beyond the surface of its appearance.

yeah............it was still cringe-ful to read folks' reactions.

...even though i know there are various theories on development/ progression around how diff people will come to understand and accept difference, these comments make me think more about how to get from one "level" of development to another -- especially away from that initial point of "i have ________ friends."

Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.
